Walk a mile.
Make a difference.
Getting from point A to B is not always easy, and in the counties we serve most of us live in small towns or rural areas. That adds extra challenges. In rural counties basic necessities such as the doctor, schools, and groceries are often 30 or more miles away. Without reliable transportation the basics may feel out of reach and that's where Walk a Mile in Their Shoes can help.
On The Road Again...

The heart of Walk a Mile in Their Shoes is providing reliable transportation for our neighbors in need, and sometimes you just need a car. We've been there, and it looks daunting. Even used cars can be expensive and in many cases the retail price outweighs the benefit. Whether you are without a car completely or have a car but it's beyond economical repair, Walk a Mile in Their Shoes can provide a solution. We can supply a vehicle at no cost or at greatly reduced cost through our subsidy program. Not as a loaner - it's yours to keep.
Check Engine Light? Check.

Mama always said, "Check engine lights are like a box of chocolates. You never know what you're gonna get."
Okay, so she didn't say that. But every motorist knows that dreaded warning light and though the auto parts store will read it for free they won't fix it for free. Car repairs can be expensive! For clients who meet program guidelines, Walk a Mile in Their Shoes can help defray or even completely cover the cost of vehicle repairs.
When All the Rubber Has Met the Road...

Most of us aren't Formula One drivers, but some of us have racing slicks on our cars anyway. Tires wear out... it's a fact of life and it always seems to happen right before winter. Keeping your car safe to drive in all seasons and in North Idaho's often unpredictable weather is critical.
For those who qualify, Walk a Mile in Their Shoes can provide assistance replacing the tires on your vehicle. Spare tires, jacks, tire irons, replacement lug nuts, and more can also be provided based on need.
Transit Networking

North Idaho has a lot to offer: Sunsets, scenery, wildlife... but we don't have much for public transportation. We also have a lot of areas where services like Uber and Lyft just aren't practical (let alone cost-effective) options. So where does that leave our neighbors who either can't or don't drive? Hopefully not in a trailer attached to the back of a gently used John Deere...

For clients in need of transportation for medical care or other essential services, Walk a Mile in Their Shoes can assist with finding local providers of rideshare or ride for hire services.
Transit Networking - Volunteer Opportunity

Walk a Mile in Their Shoes' rideshare assistance relies on a network of generous donors to make it work. If you are over 18 years of age, driving from point A to B anyhow, and have extra seats available in your vehicle why not donate that capacity to transport a neighbor in need?

Let us know your availability and routes, and if someone along (or close to) the route you'll be driving anyhow has a transportation need we'll get your contact info to them to arrange pickup/drop off times and locations. We run a background and driving history check (at our expense) on anyone providing rides.
