About Donations

Your donation is more than a dollar amount, but how does Walk a Mile in Their Shoes apply donations to help families gain independence and improve their quality of life? First and foremost, our pledge to donors is that 100% of funds received remain local, providing vehicles, services, and transportation. How do donation dollars translate to assistance for families in need?

Gifting Vehicles

On average, it costs between $3,000 to $5,000 to provide a reliable vehicle for a local family, including sourcing cars and completing necessary repairs. A typical vehicle is around 10-15 years old and is selected from a list of models known to be reliable. Vehicles may have some minor cosmetic blemishes, but we never purchase cars with a salvage title or ones that show a history (via CarFax) of structural damage or alteration.

Vehicle Service Programs

Though the cost of car repairs often fluctuates, an average repair to a recipient's vehicle can be completed for around $300 to $600. We use a network of local shops for mechanical work, tires, glass repair, and more. This ensures that, to the greatest degree possible, the benefit of donations doubles by not only helping families in need but also supporting local business owners. If you are a local mechanic interested in joining our provider network drop us a line!

Behold, I am doing a new thing;
now it springs forth, do you not perceive it?
I will make a way in the wilderness
and rivers in the desert.
